Russia suggests creation of Caspian Council

15:29 - 20.09.2022

September 20, Fineko/abc.az. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the creation of the Caspian Council will contribute to improving the effectiveness of existing regional structures and will help build them into a single system.

ABC.AZ reports that this is stated in Russian FM’s article, published in magazine ‘International Life’.

"It seems that in the interests of increasing the effectiveness of existing structures and mechanisms, it is advisable to build them into a single regional system. At the current stage, the optimal way to achieve this goal is to create a flexible five-sided forum - the Caspian Council," the article says.

Lavrov stressed that the Caspian Council will have to function without secretariat and other bureaucratic add-ons.

According to the FM, this idea was worked out in the "five" at the expert level, and was also voiced by Russia at the VI Caspian summit.
